About Rhonda O’Neal

Emmy-Nominated Film & Television Hairstylist | Founder of Beyond the Combs

Meet Rhonda

Rhonda O’Neal is an Emmy-nominated, Guild Award–winning hairstylist, educator, and founder of Beyond the Combs, located in Baldwin Hills, Los Angeles. With more than 40 years in the beauty industry and 25 years as a proud member of IATSE Local 706, Rhonda has built a career at the highest levels of film and television production.

Born in Houston, Texas, where her mother was also a hairstylist, Rhonda opened her first salon at just 21 years old. She later transitioned into union film and television work, becoming a trusted department head and key hairstylist on major productions.

Her credits include serving as Department Head on Reno 911! and Disney’s Eenie Meanie, as well as contributing to productions such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Modern Family, Avatar, and Eternals. Throughout her career, she has styled high-profile clients including Solange, Condoleezza Rice, Robin Thicke, and Andre Braugher.

Rhonda is widely recognized for her expertise in textured hair and deeper skin tones — an area where technical precision and cultural fluency matter. Through Beyond the Combs, she trains and mentors the next generation of hairstylists and makeup artists, preparing them for union-level set work and professional salon careers.

Beyond the Combs operates as an academy, full-service salon, and production staffing agency. Rhonda personally vets hair and makeup artists for film, television, and live productions, ensuring the same standards of excellence she has upheld throughout her career.

She is also the author of Beyond the Combs: A Celebrity Hairstylist’s Guide to Success, where she shares insights on building a sustainable beauty career in the entertainment industry.
